To be known and described, only in the heaviness of the night, when all the business of the day has ended!" The book, in my opinion, didn't reach the full potential. Some good ideas where passed here and there, but abandoned quickly enough through the pages, in exchange for others, maybe more pleasing for the author, maybe merely more convenient. I'll still give the book 3 out of 5, and consider it a worthy read if only to lift the veil of... Because Anne Rice has been writing vampire books for years, I have to assume that Stephenie Meyer got some of her vampire characteristics from her work. Rice does a better job of describing the exquisite beauty of her vampires - like comparing their eyes to jewels while Meyer gets repetitive with vague words like "perfect" or "godlike"...
