I read this both because I'm a Batman fan and because it was one of the inspirations for The Dark Knight Rises. Despite being a 430 page novel, it felt both overlong and incomplete. Too many characters and too many story lines. Some of them don't really go anywhere. Some characters appear to be major players in the early going and then... Mixed feelings. The writing was great and all of the stories were fantastic, but it was too obviously an adaptation. There was little feeling of over arcing story, which, in comics, is hardly a problem. I probably would have liked it better if each arc was separated into its own novel, but they would've been tiny.On the bright side,...
